From 1902 through 1911, Sporting Life, a weekly newspaper published in Philadelphia, produced and sold a lengthy run of 5" x 7-1/2" “Cabinet Phototypes of Well-known Baseball Players.”
The black-and-white player portraits are mounted on heavy cardboard mattes. The player’s name, position, team and league are printed beneath the photo. Backs are blank. They were originally given away for three two-cents stamps and a coupon found in the paper; later they were offered for sale for 10 cents apiece; 12 for a dollar.
This set is printed on 160 lb Cardsock.
